The need for Crumpler bags began in the early 1990s when a young man named Stuart from Melbourne, Australia couldn’t find a quality bag to carry his belongings, while cycling home. Stuart Crumpler along with his friends Dave and Will founded a company that strives to make practical, long lasting bags. Crumpler’s first bag was crafted using Stuart’s grandma’s sewing machine out of the best materials he could find (wetsuit thread, seatbelts, canvas, deep sea diving buckles). Using random fabrics, he tested out designs and improved them over time as well as upgraded the fabrics. In the late 1990s the brand established its name as a creative travel brand.
